A Bloom in the Nick of Time - Brugmansia

It has been a long wait!   My brugmansias (aka:  Angel Trumpets) were put out in April.  All rooted and potted and looking fine.  And finally, for the first time this year, I have a bloom!  Woo-hoo.  Only about 3 months later than expected.

Isn’t it beautiful!!  I really didn’t think that I was going to see one at all this year – with the arrival of the cool weather it wasn’t looking good.  But this baby pulled through and I am just delighted!

Gorgeous flower don't think I have one of those! Everything is getting frost bite in AZ & our mountain home is covered in snow!

When these are happy they bloom tons. My sister grows hers up close to her house under the eaves and they are non stop.
Please be careful as it is my understanding that all parts of brugmansias or Angel Trumpets are highly toxic. Leaves, flowers, roots.

Roslyn - I can't believe you're getting frost in AZ. Is that normal?

These are tropical so they do well in southern climate. Not really meant for northern climate so that makes them a little more difficult to grow if conditions are perfect. But they are so spectacular that it's worth every ounce of effort. They don't carry them in nurseries in this area so I usually order from Florida.

They grow from 12 inches in the spring to about 5 feet tall(or bigger)trees by the end of the summer. They are usually loaded with very fragrant blooms. They come in many colors. Singles, doubles and even triples. If you like flowers, treat yourself to one. You're worth it!

Lori is right though - it is poisonous if eaten. I don't have to worry about that though. No little ones and my kitties wouldn't think of eating anything other than their mounds of catnip.
